Save the Bears... Seals... Whales... Wild Salmon... the very long list goes on.
All these endangered species, not only animals either to worry about. How can we choose which needs the most attention from us? They all have convincing arguments to why they are in danger, what needs to be done to save each one. But how can we help? Just how can little ole me make any impact at all in this horrible mess?
We should be as familiar with what is wrong with our Earths natural resources as we are to what the latest line up in this weeks TV shows. But unfortunately the belief that many have is that they can't make a big enough difference so why even try… Maybe sticking our heads in the mud is easier on our guilty feelings. But what will it gain us in the long run? We have to take stock of what is happening around us and make a start. It can be a small start; you don't have to travel to the wilds of Africa to throw your self in front of a bulldozer. But letters to Editors, Senators, Congressmen, financial contributions to reliable institutions towards the conservation of nature are all good. Educate yourself, there is now reason anyone can ever say they weren't aware.
This medium called the Internet is a huge way to contribute and learn. The amounts of sites you can visit and read from are staggering! Pick a cause close to your heart build a site around it as a topic, encourage others to visit and read the news you have. Keep track on there any breaking news about the topic you chose. Find out ways we can make a difference and post instructions for others to follow.
If you have the ability, then get out and walk those beaches and streams, mountains and lakes, find out by asking local organizations where you can lend a hand. Many nature conservatories in your area need volunteers. Be out in the middle of those people catching the oil stained animals, doing everything possible to save their lives. You don't have to spend any more time than what you want, but I know many will be caught up in the wonderful feeling of rescue and stay on to finish the job. We have so many miracle workers out there, taking time to make a difference, but there is a great need for more!
I firmly believe that children are one of the most important resources we have in this never-ending fight. We must show them that they are important in the scheme of life and in their innocent ways often can be a beacon to us all in the importance of unselfish acts of love. Go to your local school or library volunteer to give a talk on Nature and things they can do right now to help our efforts. The vast and complex can be so simple to them. They often possess an unequaled sense of justice, the bonding and belonging with others, all working for the same effect inspires them to have great ideas for solving problems. We need to make sure they get a balanced and complete education in preserving our natural heritage. They are our Earth's future and deserve a chance to make a difference.
Remember, the only way you will find true enthusiasm in a cause is if you truly believe in it. Take some time to study, don't get confused by others passionate words, you need to read the facts and figures yours self. Get out there and discover things on your own. We cannot allow ourselves to be blinded by complacency with every day events. We need to stretch our heads up and see a bigger picture than the small world we have around us
