Names: Amur Tiger. Scientific name is Panthera tigris altaica.
Facts: Tigers can eat 30 kilograms of meat in one meal and go a week or more without food; under ideal conditions they eat 4 to 7 kilos per day. There are around 500 Siberian tigers estimated left, with far more in captivity than in the wild.
Habitat: Siberian tiger lives primarily in the coniferous, scrub oak, and birch woodlands of eastern Russia, with a few tigers found in northeastern China and northern North Korea.
Appearance: Siberian tigers are the largest of the tiger subspecies. Males can grow up to 3.3 meters (10' 9") long and weigh up to 300 kilograms (660 pounds). Females are smaller, measuring about 2.6 meters (8 1/2 feet) from head to tail, and weighing about 100 to 167 kilograms (200 to 370 pounds). They have retraceable claws like a domestic cat. They have an orange coat with dark brown or black stripes accented with white. Siberian tigers have thicker fur than tigers that live in warm climates. There fur is roughly 50mm on there back and 80mm on their belly.
Nature: Tigers tend to be more active at dawn and dusk, preferring to spend their days lounging in a nice pool of water ... and also sleep at least 16 hours. Adult tigers are solitary in nature, establishing there own territories. Their territory can be as large as 120 sq. miles. Normally the male's area will overlap into several females'.
