Gardening Tips and Tricks

  1. To repel those nasty bugs that like to eat tender hosta shoots, bury a fabric softner sheet by the roots of each plant.

  2. To keep pests off the leaves of plants, put two tablespoons of dish washing soap in a spray bottle andd fill up with water. Spray the leaves of the plants with the soapy mixture. This also works to kill fleas on plants.

  3. To help with soil quality and to repel insects, plant winter rye throughout the garden after harvesting or after flowers are gone. The winter rye is tough and will grow until major snows. In the spring, till the rye plants into the soil.

  4. Sprinkle powdered bone meal around your garden to keep rabbits out.
